It is a one digit selector by default. If you want to type multi digit
numbers, you have to "quote" the number with CTRL-A SINGLEQUOTE.

As Phil Gregory already mentioned: Select works inside windowlist.

CTRL-A "
        displays the windowlist
CTRL-A ' 12 RET
        warps you to window 12.
Looks like this is already nice and orthogonal.
Note that you can type a number here as well as a name-prefix.

Now what was the "%u silliness" somebody mentioned?
