actually - i had tried this, too.
just forgot to mention it. anyway,
here it is in detail"

  guckes@home:~> tty
  /dev/pts/5

  guckes@home:~> sudo chmod 777 `tty`
  Password:

  guckes@home:~> ls -l `tty`
  crwxrwxrwx 1 guckes tty 136, 5 Mar 18 21:25 /dev/pts/5

  guckes@home:~> sudo screen
/var/run/screen/S-root/8634.pts-0.home: No such file or directory

well, i don't understand what screen is complaining about.
why wouldn't it create this "8634.pts-0.home" thingie?
if it was merely the permissions on the tty,
why - it's 777 - so it gets all there is to get.
so there must be something else missing in the
(abstract) description of the "screen necessities".
