Looks like a bug

Following is the output from uname:-

> [rupinder@localhost rupinder]$ uname -v
> #1 Wed Sep 4 13:35:50 EDT 2002
> [rupinder@localhost rupinder]$ uname -r
> 2.4.18-14
> [rupinder@localhost rupinder]$ uname -a
> Linux localhost.localdomain 2.4.18-14 #1 Wed Sep 4 13:35:50 EDT 2002 
> i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux
> [rupinder@localhost rupinder]$ uname --help
> Usage: uname [OPTION]...
> Print certain system information.  With no OPTION, same as -s.
>
>   -a, --all                print all information, in the following order:
>   -s, --kernel-name        print the kernel name
>   -n, --nodename           print the network node hostname
>   -r, --kernel-release     print the kernel release
>   -v, --kernel-version     print the kernel version
>   -m, --machine            print the machine hardware name
>   -p, --processor          print the processor type
>   -i, --hardware-platform  print the hardware platform
>   -o, --operating-system   print the operating system
>       --help     display this help and exit
>       --version  output version information and exit

Well as  u can see help tells that 'uname -r' tells release and 'uname 
-v' tells vesion.
But it is other way round when u give the command.
