Thanks for your report.  But I am unable to recreate your problem.
See the included test cases.  What do these commands do for you?

  type unexpand
  unexpand is /usr/bin/unexpand
  echo "        " | unexpand | od -c
  0000000  \t  \n
  echo "        " | env -i unexpand | od -c
  0000000  \t  \n

If possible can you send a simple example such as the above but that
illustrates the incorrect behavior?
