paste: line too long

Hi,
 
Does GNU paste version remove the 511 characters restriction on line length?
 
I'm getting "paste: line too long" error using Unix paste and it would be great if GNU fixes this for me.
 
     "line too long"   Output lines are restricted to 511 charac-
                       ters.
