Following all standard default steps and conditions.

Platform    : SGI: Indigo^2
OS          : IRIX 5.5.22

Tarball downloaded and expanded in Directory-1
object directory built outside of binutils-2.18 tree -

mkdir gcc_objdir      =>  {Directory-1/gcc_objdir}
cd gcc_objdir
sh Directory-1/.configure => processed OK to "config.status:  => 
"creating Makefile" last step

make =>
   failure step:
     make
