Given that you refer to vcd_files_private.h below, I infer that by
"latest", I you are referring to the 0.6.2 "stable" release of almost
3 years ago rather than the latest ("unstable" development) release
0.7.20, released less than 3 days ago.

Details like what "latest" means are kind of helpful, especially when
posting to a forum which is archived. 

As for the solution to your problem, try searching this archive using
the string:

   "flexible array member in otherwise empty struct"

Then try using vcdimager 0.7.20.

As for the confusion caused in calling 0.6.2 "stable" and 0.7.20
"unstable/development", sorry. It's not my decision. My take is that
if 0.7.20 is "unstable", then 0.6.2 should be changed from "stable" to
"unstable" as well even though at some point in time it probably was
stable.
