It's not a straightforward question for me because I do not own or use
Fritz, so I have no idea why there may be a compatibility problem between
Fritz and xboard/WinBoard .pgn files. Also, you are correct that I'm not
actively working on xboard/WinBoard anymore. I have cc'ed this to the
developers' mailing list to see if any of the active developers have ideas.
