On a side note, while

  AM_GNU_GETTEXT_VERSION(0.17)

does not work with my system's gettext _0.19.2_

  AM_GNU_GETTEXT_VERSION(0.18)

does.  I have no idea, why that would differ if my gettext is newer than
both of these.
