There is currently no development going on for xboard. It would be great 
to update xboard to the latest version of GTK and/or improve the GTK 
interface.

You would need to sign up for GNU and sign the copyright papers.

There is also currently no active maintainer for the project, which 
would make it a bit harder to get things released, but we could probably 
figure something out or perhaps you want to be able to handle releases 
yourself?
