Sorry we didn't get that listing removed. XBoard is not a good project to get started on GNU contributions. It is not dead, but there is *very* little work being done on it or even on the to-do list. And the current maintainers don't have time to mentor new folks who have minimal coding experience -- no offense intended! You would do better to find a very active project.
