coding style

Hi

how about running "indent -gnu" across all source files and then add a
pre-commit git hook to make sure that it stays that way?

This should get the code more inline with the style guidelines for GNU
projects:

btw: I'll be gone until next year starting tomorrow (will have
occasional email access, but no access to git, etc)
