coding style update

Hi

just pushed a commit that updates all function definitions in the main
directory, since there wasn't any discussions about how they should
look. Seems like the compiler is able to do some more error checking
with the new style, since I now get a warning now, although as far as I
can tell, nothing changed?

Anyway, a step closer to having a nicer code base (I hope)...

I also updated the copyright notice to include 2012 and added the notice
to 1-2 files that were missing it...

Still need to do the GTK branch at one point, but that should be easier...
