  It's possible (but unsupported) for a remote host that knows where the
  mothership is to try to initiate a connection, when the mothership cannot
  resolve the return address.
  
  Formerly, this gave a bad mothership crash with cryptic error messages.
  
  Now, a hint as to the possible reason is given.
