FileClients broken?

I only just upgraded to 1.7.  Now one of my configuration scripts,
unchanged from what I used with 1.6, doesn't work.  I'm using a file
client.  crserver terminates with this message:

CR Error(alpina:16739): Bad Mothership response: Never heard of faker host
alpina.  Expected one of:
Terminated

Notice that the expected hosts list is null.  I seem to recall traffic in
the recent past about some aspect of the hostname matching having been
changed recently?  Any suggestions?
