Do you intend to use Chromium with DMX? If yes, you could simply create
large DMX display, containing the laptop and the four other computers. Setup
chromium on the DMX display. Start your OpenGL application in a window. When
you have the window, or part of the window on the laptop display it will use
the laptops video card. The part of the Window on the Quadro PCs will render
using the NVIDIA Quadro. I had experience with this. I have a backend
without any direct rendering and one with direct rendierng via a nVidia
6800. I can place a window so that it is on both displays and it will look
much slower on the indirect card (ig. it will be choppy on one monitor and
fine on another).

Using Chromium with DMX, you can use the laptop for input, all the systems
for output and run the OpenGL application on any computer. The only thing
you might want to be aware of is network speed. Without a fast network you
will not get optimal performance out of all your applications. The rendering
will be done by the video card hooked to the monitor that the window is
display on. It can render to two monitors at the same time, in which case
you will get optimal performance out of each.

You can use the portable for output as well, or you can chose not to. In
either case it will not slow down video performance on the rendering PCs nor
will it impair your ability to use it for input.

Note that the above is true if you are using DMX with Chromium. If you are
using Chromium on its own, it may or may not apply (I'm not really sure how
Chromium gets input for your applications if do not use DMX).

Thank you for your time,
