I tested the synchronized swapping that NVidia provides through GLX
extensions with Chromium, but either the API's have changed too much or
I'm doing something wrong, but I couldn't get them to work. The calls to
the extensions are present in the Chromium code, though, however some of
them fail.

The settings related to NVidia swap-locking can be set as options to the
Render SPU.

I do intend to pick this up again in the near future, but if you have
any interesting experiences yourself, I'd be interested to hear them.

Regards,
Paul

PS Are you using the extensions with any other (non-chromium) application?
