This isn't a "new" idea - for example, VLC does it that way already for
a while (http://trac.videolan.org/vlc/). But yes, it will be annoying.

Do you already know how the moderation system will work?

Please keep mine - 'res' ;p

If there is a way to see what/how much a user has contributed we could
probably get a good heuristic on what are spammers and what not - most
spam account made only one contribution on a "User Talk:" page. If it's
feasible and easy to filter by that the cleanup could be more
conservative and retain more legitimate user accounts without everyone
having to speak up.
