 The distinction between “shader-old” and “shader” is that the former
 contains shaders that don't use the “weaver” to generate shaders. That
 doesn't mean there is an “old” and a “new” system, as the shader weaver is
 just a layer on top of the shader system. The name “old” indicates that,
 well, the shaders in that directory are older of age and should eventually
 be migrated to use the weaver system.

 The cross mounting was done so the newer weaved shaders and the “older”
 shaders aren't mixed up into one directory – that would be the *messier*
 solution. Also, some shaders in that directory have “weaver” counterparts
 now and are arguably superseded, but have been left in place for the sake
 of backwards compatibility (to not pull the rug away from under users of
 these shaders, so to speak). Though a cleanup of that directory may be a
 good idea by now.
