#1008: SetFOVAngle has a wrong aspect ratio
-------------------------+--------------------------------------------------
Reporter: lucageode | Owner: kickvb
Type: defect | Status: accepted
Priority: major | Milestone:
Component: general | Version: V2.1
Keywords: SetFOVAngle |
-------------------------+--------------------------------------------------
Comment(by kickvb):
There are effectively some problems in the equations, and the aspect ratio
of the view is not managed correctly. For example, the method SetFOV()
will not use its aspect ratio parameter (ie 'width') for constructing its
projection matrix. SetFOVAngle() uses it to compute the fov, but the
aspect ratio will finally not be introduced correctly in the equations.
As a result of that, the users have to compensate the aspect ratio by
putting it into the 'fov' parameter.
In all cases, this is not possible to achieve the zooming effect that you
want, and this is an undesirable effect.
I'm preparing a series of patches for this, but since this is a change in
behavior, I will need to deprecate the current methods SetFOV() and
SetFOVAngle() and introduce some new ones (eg with the 'width' parameter
set in a separate method SetAspectRatio()). I'll commit those patches next
week.
