"Geller" is for Allegra Geller, the immersive game designer played by Jennifer Jason Leigh in Cronenberg's eXistenZ. Walker1 is a near topological equivalent of one of the walkers (Walker1) Alan Ferguson made years ago for SpringDance. I wanted to see how it would evolve in Fluidiom. Like you, I was amazed to see it walk faster as it slowly (through generations) stood nearly upright. No speed burner; but good for style points. I was going to recommend it for a role in a movie -- but you've beaten me too it. (In SpringDance Walker1 is a tank -- all 6 legs hug the ground). I'm taking a class at the University of Washington in the History of Educational Technology. I'm trying to think of an excuse to introduce Fluidiom to the group. This Wednesday we meet at the Human Interface Technology Lab (HITLAB). The HITLAB is one of the leaders in immersive virtual world research. For nearly a decade I've wanted to get Struck/FluidiomWorld/SpringDance into that kind of environment. And now there's Fluidiom Evo. -- John Braley On 11/13/05, Gerald de Jong <[email protected]> wrote: > a few new features in the latest update at http://fluidiom.almende.com: > > * switching to physics mode forces gravity and muscle cycle to appear > (these are required, but not everybody understands that right away) > > * evolution tweak panel now lets you choose a proportion of mutations > that will change the length of an interval, and those that will > change the cycle during which it gets longer and shorter. > > * you can now choose to use the body's symmetry (if you've built a > body using the mirror-duplicate) or not when mutating. > > PS. > > one of my favorite creatures of late was created by Evilgenius > (whoever that might be) and it is a very long millipede-like > beastie. i took it and evolved it a lot further, and now it's the > fastest runner i've ever seen. > > as far as novel walking behavior goes, the coolest thing so far was > created by Geller (whoever that might be), and it's a sort of six- > legged camel (Walker1) that consistently walks on its hind legs. > really love this one!
