there's nothing new about that version, and to be honest i was working
towards a new version (that was 2) when i discovered that i really
needed to take a new direction and that the changes were not going to
be quite so incremental.  i then spent a month or so developing the
new darwinathome version (not yet shown) without any version control
and when it got fairly stable the CVS on sourceforge was broken, so i
moved it into subversion.  that's the "darwinathome" version, which
has yet to be finished off and deployed.

the latest version of fluidiom in CVS is not a finished one, so this
week i will be reviewing it to bring it into line so i can deploy the
latest code from that repository on darwinathome.org.  i intend to
keep that version alive in parallel with the new different version.  i
will need to get a handle on all the exceptions that you are
experiencing, because i can't live with that.  maybe i can set it up
to deposit its exceptions on the server so i have them for reference.

what's really cool is the new version i'm working on, because it's
going to be very different.  it's going to make the evolution visual
in the form of running creatures instead of as graph/ancestry/log
screens, and it will involve _you_ the human as part of the fitness
function.  unattended, it will fall back on the distance-travelled
fitness function (as it is now) but you can also just pick the
mutation you like of the four running on the screen to push the
evolution in the direction that pleases you.

i have a really cool mechanism for structure growth working now which
builds bodies out of tetrahedra purely by creating mirror-images of
existing tetrahedra, and that process will become one of the possible
mutations.  this way nobody has to build creatures beforehand anymore.

the reason for the big change is that the current version simply
doesn't get enough participation for my liking.  it's always an
experiment, and i know that there are a few minor difficulties with
the current version, but the main problem is probably that people
generally get overwhelmed when they are expected to build something
first.  the new form of interaction is just click-what-you-like, and
i'm optimistic about the couch-potato factor for that.

yesterday i put some blog software up (easy as pie! just dropped a WAR
file into the JBoss i have behind the Apache on darwinathome), so i'll
be looking to keep a more complete diary of what i'm working on.  the
