No, there were no test cases in your initial mail. I would
be very interest to see my implementation fail. My newly
added tests vary gamma/sigma from 1e-180 to 1e+180. Are the
problematic values sparse in this interval? Or do the
problems only arise for sigma != 1?

Anyway, it will be much better to have an algorithm that
is proven to converge. Thanks for sharing your code. I could
adapt it easily, but I am even more glad to accept your offer
that you submit the necessary changes to libcerf as a merge
request. I will then release 1.16 within days.
