It sounds like a good idea, but if your Imatch database ever became
currupt or any photog database software you use, then you would lose
your categorization and only have one big folder with 4 gig of photos
that you would have to figure out all over again.
I create folders for each shoot or day similar to someone else that
replied here.

That way you can always sort your folders in order by year and date..
I keep each photoshoot whithin their respecitve folders then when I
have enough folders with the same general category... i.e., my trip to
VA in Oct with all the daily folders, I archive all of VA and
subfolders to two DVD's.  VA1 first half of the week and VA2 last half
of the week.
Then I can still quickly go to that DVD by the title I gave it on the
outside and not always have to open up Imatch to find what CD/DVD a
shoot is located.
