the difference is I suspect most download email as a part of their daily activity.  point the group messages to a folder and scan for interesting items takes less time than finding the link in favorites - unless you make them your "home" like Richard...

At least some of the users probably have other things to do than bounce around forums for useful information.  You expect that from a major software company, but not from boutique shops.

  Maybe I don't understand your situation, but you have to "GO" to get 
  email don't you?  What is the difference between opening an email 
  client or opening a browser?
