That's why when you do UX studies you have to carefully pick and record your participant's prior experiences and make sure you can test competitor conflation & fresh users. Sometimes everyone copies the same design because it's what was first, sometimes you have to make the hard call between converts and new people. None of this relates to the issue of invisible objects though.
