Recovering a corrupted ipe file

Hi Ipe users, I have been working on an ipe document which suddenly cannot be opened any more. Ipe shows an error message that "The document was created by a newer version of Ipe". I am certain that this is not true, and that the file was corrupted in some other way. The file is still a valid pdf. Is there anything I might try to recover this file and one hour of work?
