Yes, that does the trick. I'm too used to thinking of path type objects as being open or closed, where whether it is closed or not is an attribute of the object. It looks like OmniGraffle deals with these as separate object types that cannot be converted form one to the other, and to be fair, I cannot think of a good case for needing such a feature.
