Hello, Glenn, everyone, If a new libpng custodian is needed, I can step in, at least for the near future. I can continue doing what I've already started: implement fixes, run tests, apply changes from third-party submissions, and generally oversee the code correctness and the API and ABI stability. I can publish another set of commits over this weekend, followed by a release candidate, then a full release in the traditional way, in due time. (Small print: I'm saying all of this under the usual open-source no-warranty disclaimer.) My only requirement is an understanding from the community that I have real-life commitments with high demands on my time. (But who doesn't!) In my case specifically, as it has happened in the past, my availability goes up and down. Sometimes I can be briefly available almost each day, other times I can only respond to emails in the weekend, and other times yet I may be silent for several weeks. I have ideas for the longer term, too, looking past version 1.6. I'll discuss them here, sometime later. *** On a much more important topic: Glenn, I am so sad to learn about your health :( :( :( I would like to ** THANK YOU ** for driving PNG and libpng through the decades. PNG is an unmitigated, civilization-scale success. Newer and better static raster image formats have emerged, but for all I know, as long as Turing machines and RGB screens and the World Wide Web shall exist, PNG shall exist. Other people may have other opinions, but this is my opinion. Looking fondly into the past: it was an immense honor to work with you and learn from you. Looking eagerly into the future: I am here, and we are here, so don't worry about your legacy. It's in good hands :) Best wishes, Cosmin ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Check out the vibrant tech community on one of the world's most engaging tech sites, Slashdot.org! http://sdm.link/slashdot
