Alex and I did of course implement zTXt in pngtopnm and I did in many 
other programs "because we had to".

That is my problem !!

My software has to decompress because it is part of the standard. But I 
would strongly prefer not having to exercise that option because it is 
not part of the spec !!

I don't want us to repeat that mistake ... we're now 20 years later with 
plenty of compute resources.
