here is I think another topic that slowly has become irrelevant in 20
years : GAMMA

yes, it was a big thing in the past century when PC's and Mac's had
different gamma corrections

hey, I was (I still am :) the proud owner of a NextStation that had a
PostScript driven display with gamma 1.0 -- one-dot-zero!! <vbg>, that
should be the benchmark

on a sidenote: for many years I had in my basement a still running
computer that had a performance of SpecINT 1.0 (it was the baseline for
spec's), you may guess which computer model that was :-)

back on topic, I think that in a time of laptops, iPhones, tablets,
YouTube, media players, etc. nobody still worries (or cares) about gamma
correction

and those that do worry about those topics, like GC guys/gals in
Hollywood plus the Pixar's of this world, they do completely their own
thing -- and they know what they're doing !!

so yes, we can have an app that is scaling the image but still adding
the original exif data, but soon we'll either say "ok, we still have the
time-stamp and GPS coordinates of the original picture, that's helpful"
or we we'll switch to another application that does a better job

in short, people will figure it out ... or they will not care, probably
99% !!

let's not become zealots here ... at least that's my $0.02
