Xsane does not display preview window

Hello

Xsane does not display the preview window any more. That makes it 
impossible to select the area that is scanned.

Everything used to work until march 21. After that date the preview 
window could be started with a work around:
1. Start xsane
2. Scan a document
3. Save the document
4. Stop xsane
5. Restart xsane

Now this work around does not work any more.

The OS is Linux Mint 21.2 Victoria. My printer/scanner is a Epson XP-6100.

I have sent a mail to [email protected] concerning this 
issue on march 21. Up to now nobody has replied to my mail or installed 
a fix.

I depend on proper scans and would highly appreciate a fix.

Please excuse my bad English. I am not a native english speaker.
