Okay, try this:

1. Uninstall Canon's official "driver"
2. Unplug and plug back in your scanner.
3. Try this line in Terminal:

scanimage -v --format=3Dpng -o ~/Desktop/test.png

Let us know the output.  We're basically gathering info here to help you
out.
