Ah... sorry, I didn't think of that in my previous reply. Though there isn't yet boolean drawing operations, you do inherently support a boolean XOR if you combine shapes - and it works especially well if your holes are fully contained within the object to cut them out from, e.g. not cutting chunks out of the edges. It's also useful to know how to make arcs.... My apologies. I'm really starting to enjoy SVG and it's all SodiPodi's fault :-) Thanks Lauris... My C/C++ isn't too hot otherwise I'd love to contribute. Pity it's not written in Java :-/ Dawid Loubser Solms Training, Consulting and Development www.solms.co.za On 04 Feb 2004, at 14:45, Lauris Kaplinski wrote: > Hello! > > ----- Original Message ----- > From: "sosman" <[email protected]> > To: <[email protected]> > Sent: Wednesday, February 04, 2004 11:05 AM > Subject: [Sodipodi-list] basics > > >> Some basic things I haven't figured out: >> >> - how to construct an arc with the "circle, ellipse and arc" tool. > > - Use Ctrl + ellipse tool to get circle > - use node tool and drag knots to make pie or arc (depending whether > mouse is 'inside' or 'outside' of imaginary circle > >> - how to join the ends of an arc with a straight line. > > - Select both arc and line with select tool, and click 'combine' from > selection toolbox. > - Then select 2 endpoints (the one of arc and the one of line) and > click > join in node toolbox > >> - how to centre concentric circles and then make sure the line is >> symmetrical. > > either: > - draw cicle > - duplicate > - hold down shift + ctrl and scale one of the circles down > or > - draw circle > - draw another circle > - select both > - click 'align' from object toolbox > - center both circles both horizontally and vertically > > Also, if you haven't figured it out, you can later use 'combine' to > combine all separate pieces (circle and 2 semi-circle like objects) > into single object with 2 'holes' > > >> If any one could point me at a basic tutorial or give me a heads up on >> these newbie questions that would be most appreciated. > > I do not know any good introduction other than the ones mentioned > in http.//www.sodipodi.com/ documentation section.
