sodipodi will not create PDFs directly; you must print to a postscript
file, then convert the ps to pdf with a separate program (named ps2pdf
on my system.)

Right click on the drawing in sodipodi, and choose File>Print...

Make sure you have selected the "Print using Postscript operators" radio
button.

Enter a filename in the "Print destination" field.  For example, if your
drawing is foo.svg, and you want to print to foo.ps, enter

"> foo.ps"

(without the quotation marks.)
