ver. 0.34 Win9x/ME installer - can't find my GTK+ lib?

Greetings..

I just tried to install the 0.34 Win9x/ME .exe, and it
gives me a message that it can't find the GTK+ library
on my machine. 

I have GTK+ 1.3 library for Windows (which I installed
when I installed The Gimp). 

so my questions are: 

- which GTK+ version does it need? 
- where does it look for it, and 
- is there a way to add a browse feature during the
install, so that if the library isn't in the default
location, it can be browsed for?
