error 2083

Hello. I'm using SuSe9.1 with Sodipodi for vector graphics. It's started
spitting out the following messages in the console (in which it is
started) for each letter pressed after the text tool is selected :

xxx@yyyyy:~> sodipodi

(sodipodi:2104): GnomePrint-WARNING **: PS name is NULL, for
"/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/truetype/arial.ttf" using fallback

(sodipodi:2104): GnomePrint-WARNING **: PS name is NULL, for
"/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/truetype/arial.ttf" using fallback

(sodipodi:2104): GnomePrint-WARNING **: PS name is NULL, for
"/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/truetype/arial.ttf" using fallback

etc.

If one then tries to go into the Text Dialog the program crashes :
** (sodipodi:2104): WARNING **: Emergency save activated

Help! I *really* *really* *really* don't want to use anything but
sodipodi. I've grown very fond of it.

This might not be relevant, but as far as I know, the only change I have
recently made to my system was installing sub-pixel hinting ala the
instructions on www.theregister.co.uk

Sodipodi had no problems on my old box, on which I had also done this...
so are there any known problems with more recent versions?
