From my point of view: I have been quiet through all the flags stupidity all the time, but this time... 1º Flags are easy to do, is not a big deal to design them, is not big show of your abilites, why you made them?(don't answer this, just think). 2º Flags are related to political divisions of the Earth. The devotion we have for them comes from feudalism, where servants weren't allowed to think, the just have to recognise colors and forms and serve those who wear them. 3º In the opensource world we are apolitically dealing with communications and tecnology, we are making a new world without making anybody think different by force, without making anybody wear our flag, well some people love Tux, but some other not, and they don't kill themselves ;). Flamewars is just a term to call never ending discussions. 4º People has killed themselves in the past because of a flag and they still do it. 5º Sodipodi is an application, not a repository, check www.creativecommons.org 6º I hate national flags, though I love national, regional, whatever cultures while this cultures doesn't affect a Human Live, Integrity or Freedom. To sum up, I was expecting this kind of problems and I didn't like the flag idea in the first place. After a long long long thread, the gnome-developers decided not to include flags because they are not directly related with language, culture or anything else. Although the Internet is great we don't live in a perfect real world. I don't expect everybody to understand my point of view (nationalism is where you less think it's hidden, fed by capitalism) and I only feel sorry for those who has felt offended by the Flags Clipart, like Patricia. What do you think?
