sodipodi and gimp on the same PC

I am having difficulty running the latest gimp and sodipodi together on 
my windows PC.  If I install the GTK 2.2.4.1 then GIMP breaks.  They 
both mostly work with 2.2.4.0 but I can't seem to export to PNG with 
sodipodi on the earlier one (I get an application error).

Is there a simple work around to this?

PS sorry if the above version numbers aren't quite right, the PC in 
question is at work.
