Unless Lauris opens up the repository for other people to commit, the 
only reliable form of resurrection available is a fork--that's where 
Inkscape came from.  We might get some movement if Lauris comes back to 
work on it, but I, for one, would have to think hard about whether to 
invest my time in a project that might die off without notice again.  I 
spent weeks developing a major piece of functionality (Python 
scripting); when I posted my work, people were interested in using it, 
but Lauris never responded, and so my time was just wasted.
