I would say he is. Every time someone shows up that *you* don't feel 
has a clue, you show up and whack him upside the forehead with a 2x4 
cluestick. It usually shuts them up permanently, because their idea 
"has no merit" or "is insane". Frequently, you don't give much 
explanation after that.
A while ago, it was suggested that the protocol be padded out to 4-byte 
boundaries for the benefit of certain RISC platforms.

Now, it doesn't break the protocol any more than it already is to have 
alignments present. It would make life easier on some CPUs and to my 
understanding have no real effect on others since they already have to 
find the boundaries.

Yes, he's reading what you're saying. I've been seriously considering 
dropping off the list because of this, even though I'm now at a point 
where I have a little time to spend on this.

I'll go crawl back into my ignoramus's cave and beat on autotools some 
more before the flames get too hot.
