Releasing a project under gpl and creating an open discussion forum creates 
the impression you're interrested in people contributing to Y. If you think 
its the best to keep the main group limited to an already defined group of 
persons it would be smart to make that clear from the start.

You are probarblyright, but if you would like other people to aid in the 
development of Y such arrogance isnt helpfull.

What are you expecting/wanting from the general audience on the developers 
list??
