I agree.  There wasn't much I could do about it, though: too many people
in the dept had heard about it and were pestering me for these things
(website, mailing list, ...).  I was young and naive ;)


As Phil and others have pointed out, the source is in GNU Arch, which lets
anyone ``fork'' the code in a way that means I can merge their changes
back in later.  I don't need to tell the people who realise this to do it.
To my knowledge only Andy and Phil have done so.

I don't have the time or the inclination to do any significant development
on Y, and probably won't for a long time.  XRandR finally lets me change
resolution on my laptop, and it looks like they might even crowbar in some
semblance of translucency into X.  Bravo to them.  I still want to replace
X: I think Y is a much better way of doing the job, but the need is less
pressing.

That all being said, if someone posts a fantastic patch to the list that
piques my interest, I'll surely read it and might even merge it.
