hi!

i bought a noname usb flash drive (it's a mp3 player) which should work under
linux, according to the manual. unfortunately, it didn't. my
/var/log/messages seemed to report correct things but when i tried to mount
the memory stick, it got an I/O error in the logs and a message in the
console that the partition table was unreadable.
i've searched the internet for some days and posted in various forums but i
didn't read anything about a success. most topics i found on google were
about a sony clie and a memory stick problem. i thougt that this could be the
same problem and it looks like it really is. you posted a solution:
http://kreucher.net/pipermail/clie-linux/2003q2/000375.html

as you asked to report experiences, i'm writing now.
first i used a 2.4.18 kernel, then a 2.4.20 and it didn't work neither.
finally i patched the kernel to 2.4.21-rc3 and now it works. i compiled
everything into the kernel, no modules. scsi support, usb support (general,
ohci, mass storage, ...) and all that stuff.

long story short, i just wanted to say that patching the kernel works fine
here.

thanks for your tip!

greetings,

ogott
