The problem with collie is that it does not have a speaker but simple
buzzer. Default /dev/dsp is routed to headphones only and to get sounds
from buzzer you need to use ioctl() calls.
OPIE do such beeps via ODevice calls.
There is a patch which add /dev/dsp1 for collie kernel but we do not
enabled it as it break everything which use those buzzer ioctl() calls.
