did you get a reply? Neal and me sent patches too but without any feedback for
quite some time now :-(

That should be fine, i can't imagine that this could cause any harm.

That looks a little bit strange, could someone verify if this is correct? In
fact i would prefer the first solution even if the second is correct.

Using the library to access the database is always a good idea. I suppose the
API won't change that much anymore in near future. Maybe Neal has a short
comment on this.
