Looks like they internally mapped the arrows to the numpad somehow... Sounds like a "numlock" problem... I'm not using Opie so I don't know if you can change this there. But if you can't, you should try to find a way of manually toggling the numlock status. I know you can do this by cat "1" > /proc/<somewhere_i_cant_remember> something and see if it makes a difference.
