New battery in 3955 but it won't boot

Hi- I've just replaced the old (original) battery in my 3955 with a new 2250mAh replacement, but 10 hours have passed and the machine is not booting ... nothing happens when I press the reset with the stylus. Is there any special way of rebooting this ipaq after a battery replacement? I've had Familiar Opie v.0.8.4 on it for years but the battery kept on draining, until it stopped booting altogether. I have the CF sleeve with the external battery (which blinks when I put the machine to charge).
