A few years ago i tried Familiar 0.8.4 on a h3900 with little success. Too bad really, because i really like the idea of running Linux on a handheld device. Anyway, a couple of weeks ago i got a dirt cheap h2200, and it works a lot better. Sound and SD works, it can boot from CF, so i doesn't have to reflash the device every time i want to try something different (transferring images via serial cable at 1150000 bps was a pain in..., having to learn how to cut and paste in CE each time i reboot is a bit less annoing), i can put the CF card in a card reader if i want to access the entire filesystem from my PC and most of all / is 1 gb vs. the 32 mb in the h3900. But there are still some problems and limitations: With Opie i can't receive files via bluetooth. It seems to be a known bug, but are there any solution for it? The cradle doesn't have a serial port. I have a spare cradle for my h3900. Can i gut it and put it inside the h2200 cradle? The SD card works, but only if the card is formatted with the ext2 filesystem. No luck with fat. There seem to be a lot of interesting software to try out on my new large root file system, but most of it is for Familiar 0.8.2 or even earlier versions. Can i add the sources to my ipkg system and expect it to work? If the above doesn' t work, can i install a complete build system on the ipaq and build the software locally? How? And finally. Is Familiar 0.8.4 going to be the last version ever released? I really appreciate the effort you guys put into it and i would like to see another release. -- Lasse Jensen (fafler at gmail dot org) _______________________________________________ The Familiar Linux Distribution Familiar mailing list [email protected] https://handhelds.org/mailman/listinfo/familiar irc://irc.freenode.net #familiar
