PMR Hi there, what do I need in order to install familiar linux in my
PMR j720? Where do I get a howto, the familiar images, etc? Is it usable
PMR or experimental?

The first thing is to get a 512Mb CompactFlash card. You can get a smaller 
one, but you mustn't get a bigger one (I think) or it won't be recognised 
(or the excess won't be).

Then, there are quite a few HOWTOs around. I used:

will get you all the help you need.

You probably want to follow the instructions for no flashboard, which 
means a 2.4.X kernel is the best choice at the moment.

initrd) onto the FAT partition. Then you unpack a distro on the EXT2 
partition. Then you are ready to rock.

Without a PCMCIA wireless card, the Jornada isn't up to much. You will 
need a 16bit one: Zcom XI-325 PCMCIA Wireless LAN PC Card, which you can 
get for less that 30 euros. You need to have a file 
/etc/modutils/orinoco_cs.conf which says:

options orinoco_cs ignore_cis_vcc=1

for the card to work.

I would get the GPE version of Familiar. Then if you don't like it, you 
can try OPIE, or get the barebones version and track down a WM that is 
compiled for ARM/Familiar.
